Visa Validity

What is the validity period for a UK visa?

The UK offers multiple visa validity options depending on the type and purpose of your visit:
  • Standard Visitor Visa — 6 months = £127
  • Standard Visitor Visa (medical reasons) — 11 months = £220
  • Standard Visitor Visa (academics) — 12 months = £220
  • Long-Term Standard Visitor Visa — 2 years = £475
  • Long-Term Standard Visitor Visa — 5 years = £848
  • Long-Term Standard Visitor Visa — 10 years = £1,059
Please note: For all Long-Term Standard Visitor Visas, the maximum length of stay per visit is 6 months.

What does UK visa validity depend on?

  • Your previous travel history — especially to the UK, Schengen countries, and the USA. If you're applying for a Long-Term visa (2, 5, or 10 years), the UK Home Office will consider how you've used visas in the past.
  • Strong financial evidence — Bank statements showing stable income and savings over several months, and proof of the source of any irregular deposits.
  • Your country ties — Evidence that you have strong reasons to return to your home country.

Bank Statement

Why do you need the bank statement first?

Over the past decade, bank statements have been one of the primary reasons for UK visa rejections, accounting for nearly 90% of refused applications. The UK Home Office places significant importance on financial documents, with approximately 75% of the decision-making process based on the applicant's bank statement before considering any other supporting documents.

Why is your bank statement important for a UK visa?

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) carefully reviews your bank statement to evaluate two key aspects:

1. Your Ability to Afford the Trip
UKVI needs to confirm that you can financially support yourself during your stay in the UK, including flights, accommodation, and daily living expenses.

2. Your Financial Stability
A stable income, regular account activity, and consistent savings indicate a financially responsible life.

Note: Sudden large deposits or unexplained transactions can raise concerns. UK visa rules require you to provide documentary proof of the source of any significant funds in your account.

Why do you need details about income and expenses?

The UK Home Office closely examines your bank statements, particularly looking at the regularity and legitimacy of deposits and withdrawals:
  • Unexplained or irregular deposits and expenses may raise red flags during the visa assessment process.
  • The UK Home Office requires clear evidence of the source of funds, especially for cash deposits.
  • All income and expenses must appear legitimate and traceable.
Even if these deposits are from family members, a written explanation is still required. If there are any supporting documents — such as a declaration, gift letter, or transfer receipt — they should also be included.

What amount is needed in the bank statement for the application?

The UK does not require a specific amount. Instead, your overall financial status is assessed based on your income, expenses, and savings to ensure you can cover the costs of your stay.

What should I do if my bank statement has large deposits or irregular expenses I can't explain?

There are two main options:

Option 1 (Recommended): Wait 4 months to build a cleaner financial history. Avoid large cash deposits or irregular expenses during this time. Try to create a balance between your income, expenses, and savings.

Option 2 (Not recommended): We can apply with the current documents and situation. However, applying with unjustified irregular deposits will affect the visa decision.
